We are selling information, nothing more. When you buy information from us you are not entering any lottery.
We generate our numbers using robust statistical methods. It is always possible that one or more other people will pick the same number as the one we supply, causing a prize to be shared between you and other winners.
Lottodog doesn't cover the lottery I play, can you add it?
We are adding more lotteries all the time. If you would like us to add the lottery you play, please send us an email. We will analyse it and add it if we can.
What sort of lotteries can you cover?
Lottodog numbers help in any lottery that is pari-mutuel (where the prize money is pooled and shared equally by prize winners). In other lotteries that have a fixed prize level it doesn't matter how many people share the prize, so our approach doesn't really help. We also need enough data for meaningful statistical analysis. This usually means that the lottery must have been running for several years and that we can get the prize data.
Can I use Lottodog numbers from one lottery to play a different lottery?
We don't recommend it. We calculate the numbers for each lottery separately based on the habits of people who actually play that lottery, so they are the best available. Local differences change the numbers people pick and even things like the layout of the lottery slip affect the popularity of each number.
When I buy a number from you, am I entering the lottery?
No, you must do this separately. We include links to many of the lottery operators' websites and some allow you to enter online. Otherwise they will tell you where you can buy your ticket. Just remember to take your Lottodog numbers with you.
I bought a number from you and it didn't win. Why not?
Lottodog numbers are just as likely to win as any other number; no more, no less. They are less likely to have to share the prize.
How long should I use my Lottodog number?
We re-calculate our numbers as more information comes in so when you get them a Lottodog number is the best available. Over time people's habits change and we learn more and more about those habits. Both of these change the ranking of numbers. Also from time to time the lottery operators change the style of the game and sometimes this will have an affect on the numbers people choose. Generally we recommend getting a new Lottodog number every two - three years and certainly if there has been a significant change in the lottery.
I bought a number from you and it won the jackpot but I had to share it with other people. I am rich but I'm really bitter. What happened?
We go to great lengths to find the unpopular numbers but we can never be sure that other people won't choose one of our numbers by chance. .
I bought a number from you, it won the jackpot and I kept it all to myself. Is there anything I can do for you?
We would love to hear from you.
How secure is my credit card information?
Your credit card information is taken by HSBC secure e-payments. We don't see any of your card details. When you are transferred to the HSBC website your browser will connect through a 128bit encrypted SSL connection - look for the padlock symbol on your browser.
I bought a number from you and it doesn't look very convincing to me.
All numbers are equally likely to come up. If the Lottodog number doesn't look "nice" to you, maybe it doesn't look nice to anyone else.
What would happen if everyone buys a Lottodog number?
The short answer is that they can't. We only sell the best numbers and there is a limited supply of them. And we won't sell the same number twice. So, as they say, when they're gone, they're gone.
Do my Lottodog numbers help in the lower tiers of prizes or just the jackpot?
Lottodog numbers work for all levels where the prize money is shared between all the winners at that level (pari-mutuel in lottery jargon). With most lotteries this means all levels except usually the very lowest. In some ways they offer more predictable value since they aren't as exposed to one of two random other users of that number. With Powerball and Megamillions outside California the prizes are fixed for every level except the jackpot and so it doesn't matter how many people share the prize. The "expected value" of the Lottodog number is still very high in Powerball and Megamillions (outside California) because so much of the expected value comes from the jackpot. Lottodog numbers are especially good for Megamillions played in California where most levels are pari-mutuel.
Can anyone buy a Lottodog number?
Yes, all we are selling is information. If you have a credit card, you can buy our information. However this information is only useful for entering the lottery. Most lotteries prohibit minors and non-residents from buying tickets.
I operate a lottery syndicate with my friends. Can I use Lottodog numbers?
Yes, Lottodog numbers are excellent value for syndicates. A syndicate shares any winnings amongst its members so can really benefit from not having to share with anyone else.
Can I use Lottodog numbers for wheeling?
We do not recommend wheeling your Lottodog numbers. Wheeling is based on the belief that a certain set of numbers is more likely to come up. This is a fundamentally different approach to the Lottodog approach. If you were to wheel your Lottodog numbers you may accidentally pick a number sold to another Lottodog customer, not good for either of you!
Does Lottodog play the lottery?
Yes, we operate a syndicate at the Lottodog offices and we use Lottodog numbers. We "eat our own cooking."
